Lukikiri lo KCNA
Lukukiri lo Paranet lo KKCNA
The KCNA conference that ended in Fargo North Dakota last weekend is to be remembered as the most successful Kuku conferences ever held in my own memory. This refutes the frame of thinking that Kuku people are divided and cannot come together. The credit goes to those who sacrificed money and time to attend the conference. For those who did not attend intentionally or unintentionally, you are still part of this community. For those who missed for reasons beyond their central and have always attended like Dr. Beniah Yongo who did not find flight in time, Beniah Lobunek who had back injection and Phlister Lou who had waist ‘mukok’ but send the children, we hope that they will be healthy next year.
This conference was possible, because people worked as a team and the permanent secretary of the community, Michael Tomor should take the largest credit. The triple Poni’s : – Poni Modi from Canada, Poni Lejukole, Poni Loponi Plus Manuela Okot and Gire performed beyond expectations. They are young shinney, smart and pretty and above all Kuku.
The most surprising thing is that Poni Modi stole the credit in teaching Kuku language and Poni Lejukole beecame a real Kuku daycare teacher. Some of the Kuku vocabulary she reminded us about have been forgotten by those currently fluent in Kuku. As I was digesting some meanings certain kuku words Muje Kijana called James Modi Malula secretly briefed me about saying Kuku good morning which is applied according to age. For young people it is ‘do a Pure’ For older people several words are applied, words such as ‘ do a kiyunda, do adukun mugun, do angiyun etc. But as paying attention to kuku letters was not enough, the real joy and applause came at a time when Poni Lejukole came to the room with the kidos. Some were still figuring out how the room looked like, some ran to hug their parents and any
Kukutot, some had missing teeth which broadened their smile, some came with their footballs.
Finally, when they were lined up to give their knowledge and experience about Kuku, the answers were hilarious and amusing keeping clapping and praising going on. Even Abuna Modi, appeared to be recalling the singing of a day it was announced that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Some of the kids when asked about their names made it is by spelling out e.g. ABC. But the answer of the day came from a young girl who said, her knowledge of Kuku is that, the Kuku are born to talk, taking from morning to evening. She even drew an image of morning and sunsetting.
All in all I would like to bring to the attention of my brothers and sisters the world over that, although Kuku conferences are done in different regions, it is for us all. We all fall under the umbrella of Kuku Community Global based in Juba. I also hope ghat a representative of Kuku Community Global is invited to the next conference. In addition those who resist attending Kuku conferences, either in Juba, Belameling, Kajokeji, Nairobi, Kampala etc should rethink their stand. They are Kuku.
